LAURALYNN HOUSE - CHILDREN'S HOSPICE

Ireland's First Children's Hospice has now officially opened in September 2011 by the President of Ireland, Mary McAleese. Families and children are already using the services of LauraLynn House, reaching over 300 children and their families a year.

The Children’s Sunshine Home Hospice Project and The Laura Lynn Foundation came together in 2006 to realize their shared vision and bring comfort and support to families in Ireland.

Where possible, a child should die at home with their family, the reality is that for some families this may not be possible.
We want to give families a choice.

It has 8 bedrooms with en-suite accommodation, and comfortable living accommodation just like a large bungalow. It also has family apartments where families can come and stay and be near their child, especailly when a child is being cared for at end of life.

Every aspect of the design enhances the comfort and care of the child while at the same time considering the sensitivity of the families.  Other facilities includes a family room, a quiet room, music and playrooms, outdoor water features, a quiet garden, multisensory room etc

LauraLynn House is supported by a multi-disciplinary team of staff from Paediatrician, Palliative Care Nurses, Clinical Team, Physiotherapy and Occupational therapy.

LauraLynn House help:

  • Enhance our respite and End-of-life services to children with life-limiting conditions.
  • Provide family accommodation
  • Practical and emotional support to those caring for a sick child.
  • Respite care, not only for the sick child, but for the family and siblings.
  • Giving families choices: To stay and share the care of their child. Be there as a family, or leave the child in respite care and take a break away, knowing their child will have the same loving care as they themselves give. Spend more time with the other children in the family, who are often left out and choice when the end sadly comes.
  • Strive to be as flexible as possible to meet each families needs.

Key Admission Criterion

Only children medically diagnosed with life limiting conditions will be admitted to The Children's Sunshine Home.
