Our Son Nicholas
Nicholas is a happy smiley two year old little boy
with an endearing personality. Nicholas has congenital
CMV (Cytomegalovirus) disease, he has cerebral palsy,
is profoundly deaf, visually impaired and has
developmental delay. His is much loved by his big
sister Isabel (and parents of course!) and she is his favourite
person. She brings out the very best in him and gets the
most laughs from him. He has a very infectious laugh!
Caring for Nicholas can be emotionally and physically
very demanding. As Nicholas does not have any basic
motor skills, everything must be done for him. In addition,
he requires daily exercises, medication, hospital visits,
Enable Ireland appointments and the use of various
equipment. Feeding is extremely time consuming and
he is a poor sleeper.
The Children's Sunshine Home has provided essential
respite for us in the past year without which we would not
have been able to continue to take effective care of him
or ourselves. The Children's Sunshine Home has helped
hugely in improving Nicholas's sleeping pattern and for
this we are very grateful. The Children's Sunshine Home
has provided a second home for Nicholas which we know
we can rely on.
We hope Nicholas continues to be a happy little boy.
Nicholas's awareness of his surroundings has developed
and we would love this to continue. We dearly wish to
take care of Nicholas in our own home.
